01/11/2008

The National Safety Commission (TNSC) today announced that Christopher "Chris" Knight, the former Director of the Florida Highway Patrol, has joined the leading organization working to deliver lifesaving defensive-driving and traffic-safety information to the general public. Knight will serve as the Executive Director of Highway Safety.

"We are extremely pleased that Colonel Knight has elected to join our team, bringing his remarkable and widely respected law enforcement credentials," said TNSC president and CEO Ken Underwood. "With his years of experience leading the 1,800 sworn FHP personnel protecting Florida's roadways, he brings a wealth of public safety knowledge to the National Safety Commission and shares our core mission to promoting highway safety."

After graduating from Florida State University, Knight, 50, joined the FHP in 1981 and served for 26 years. He began his law enforcement career as a trooper responsible for patrolling the roadways of Southwest Florida, and he quickly rose through the ranks serving assignments in Miami, Bradenton, Palatka and Tallahassee. He has experience serving as a troop commander, Chief of the FHP Training Academy and six years as FHP Director. Knight is also a graduate of the FBI academy and is a member of various professional groups including the Florida Sheriffs Association, the Florida Police Chief's Association, the State Law Enforcement Chiefs Association and the International Association of Police Chiefs.

TNSC, founded in 2002, operates online driving safety courses through Web sites including www.LowestPriceTrafficSchool.com.
